Taiwan Minbao was the first purely vernacular newspaper in Taiwan, founded during the Japanese occupation.
This newspaper insisted on "inspiring the culture of our island, invigorating our compatriots, and seeking the happiness of Taiwan" to speak for the Taiwanese of that era. Such persistence and proposition were the hope of many people and scholars at that time.
This newspaper not only commented on politics and supported social movements, but also demanded Taiwan’s autonomy at the time! Not only that, but under the rule of the Japanese government, it has the courage to support Taiwan's new literature and art and promote vernacular Chinese. It is indeed an important field for Taiwan's new literature. Here, many famous writers of Taiwanese new literature have been bred, and because it introduces new knowledge, new ideas, and reports on Chinese politics and new knowledge of the world, the people of Taiwan under the rule can see more of the world.
This newspaper opened up the horizons of the people of Taiwan during that period and became the people's speech organization, leaving an indelible contribution to the social and cultural enlightenment of the time.
