Generally speaking, Guanyin is nothing more than the image of holy white light.
But in Kaohsiung, there is a 100-year-old Guanyin statue. He is not white at all. He is the black Guanyin.
In 1902, the Japanese sugar technicians in Taiwan were under the anti-Japanese atmosphere and their lives were threatened. In addition to sympathizing with the employees far away from their hometowns, they also I hope to draw closer relations with Taiwanese through common religious beliefs.
After careful study, this Guanyin statue is in the same style as the holy Guanyin statue in the East Hall of Yakushi Temple in Nara, Japan. It can be called a masterpiece in the history of Japanese Buddha sculpture and has a lot of artistic value. President Suzuki made a total of four statues of Guanyin at that time, and the only one outside of Japan is located in the Qiaotou Sugar Factory!
