Hou Yi ordered the people to put up an incense table, put Chang'e's favorite honey and fresh fruit, and sacrifice to Chang'e in the moon palace. After hearing the news of Chang'e, the people put up incense cases at the bottom of the moon and prayed to the kind-hearted Chang'e Nine for auspiciousness and safety. Since then, the custom of worshipping the moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival spread among the people.
