Many people in Taichung will definitely go to the "Miyahara Eye Clinic"! Are you going to see a doctor? Not! I'm going to buy pineapple cakes or try some ingenious ice cream! How did this eye-catching four-story Japanese-style building near Taichung Railway Station become a well-known must-see attraction today? Let Paobian share its story with everyone!

Miyahara Ophthalmology was originally called Miyahara Takeo's Eye Hospital. It was founded by Dr. Takeo Miyahara during the Japanese occupation in the 1930s. After Taiwan's recovery, the eye hospital was confiscated with government assets and changed to Taichung City Health Center. Later, in order to build a new health building, the Taichung City Government used Miyahara Eye Hospital as a salary compensation, so it changed ownership. In the next few decades, many merchants stationed in succession, even serving as offices for Mandarin Daily, until the 921 earthquake and typhoon Kameiji devastated the structure, which gradually became desolate and dilapidated old houses, which were on the verge of disappearing.

In 2010, the Taichung Nichu Group purchased the building and renovated the entire interior, leaving only some elements and the "Miyahara Ophthalmology" sign, turning the old house into an exquisite commercial space. The exterior is still the original red brick arcade, and the mottled brick text tells the history of Miyahara Ophthalmology. The interior is transformed into a Baroque style, and the whole space is like a European-style library, with more nostalgic and fantasy atmosphere.

In addition to buying souvenirs with a sense of design, when I come to Miyahara Eye Clinic, ice cream with authentic flavor is also the main reason for queuing. Specially put Taiwanese characteristic fruits and a variety of tea into ice cream. After choosing the taste, put on Taichung specialties such as pineapple cake and cheese cake. The ingenious match is like an old building with historical significance with a new generation of vitality and vitality. Next time you come to Taichung, you can take a personal look at the beauty of this building, order a "tomorrow will be better", and add a "Wang Lai" pineapple cake to enjoy this new and good taste.
