【月饼#A must-have snack for Mid-Autumn Reunion】
From ancient times to the present, the traditional Chinese folk custom will give moon cakes on the Mid-Autumn Festival as a symbol of auspiciousness and reunion! So how exactly do moon cakes come from?
There are many theories about the origin of moon cakes. One theory is that moon cakes originally originated from food used by the army of the Tang Dynasty to celebrate victory. During the reign of Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty, General Li Jing won the conquest of the Huns and returned triumphantly on August 15. At that time, Turfan people offered cakes to the emperor for victory. The great ancestor Li Yuan took out the round cake, smiled at the bright moon in the sky and said, "You should invite the cake to the toad (moon)." After that, share the cake among the officials. Since then, the custom of eating moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival has been passed down.
And it is called "moon cake" because one of the Mid-Autumn Festival night, when Tang Xuanzong and Concubine Yang were appreciating the moon and eating Hubing, Tang Xuanzong thought the name "Hubing" was not good. Yang Guifei looked up at the bright moon and said casually " Since then, the name "Moon Cake" has gradually spread among the people.
Another legend is also widely known! According to legend, during the Yuan Dynasty, the Han people were miserable under the rule of the Yuan people. Zhu Yuanzhang rebelled against the Yuan, but the Yuan army was closely monitored and the rebels were unable to pass on the news. For this reason, Liu Bowen offered to give each other cakes and put papers in it on the Mid-Autumn Festival. The article says "Kill Tarzi on August 15" as a signal of the uprising. From then on, the custom of eating moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival spread among the people.
No matter where the moon cakes come from, the custom of using moon cakes to signify the reunion of people, using moon cakes to express the love of hometown and relatives, and the custom of eating moon cakes with family members to symbolize reunion has been passed down to this day. Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, spend this beautiful festival with my family.
